AS Level Music Video: Rewind - Paolo Nutini

Here is the final finished product that me and Olivia planned, filmed, directed and edited. Song rights to Paolo Nutini. Actors filmed are Ryan Clancy and Olivia Gascoine. This is on my A2 blog as it was done during summer as a practice/experiment for the Film Noir project that we'll be starting in late December

Trial shots and experimental editing using iMovie

Myself and Olivia filmed short clips experimenting with various shot types and camera angles. We wanted to do this in order to then rewind the clips to see what worked well, what didn't work so well, how to improve it, what speed to rewind it etc. Using iMovie I edited the clips with various speeds, some rewinded and some not and added colour filters. Not all of the shots we filmed are included in the video below, it was more a tool for us to experiment with editing. I backed the video to the song Rewind by Paolo Nutini which is the song we are going to use in our coming music video.

POST-PRODUCTION - Editing the music video

We used a downloaded software programme called Audacity to experiment with different speeds and sounds of our chosen song "Rewind" by Paolo Nutini. We also wanted to cut some of the song out in the mid section as the repeated choruses might bore our audience if they're watching the same/similar clips throughout. In the end we decided to leave the tempo as it was, but crop the song from 2.22 - 2.44 where we merged the end of the chorus with the next verse. It ran smoothly from the jump between the two music clips and so we simply exported it and added it Final Cut.

In Final Cut we used the Audio editing tools to make the song fade in at the beginning of the clip and fade out at the end. This makes it much more smoother like a real music video. It eases the viewer into the song, especially as "Rewind" is a slow, acoustic melody with a gentle mood.
